COUPLES CLASS

Love Never Fails is a class for couples offered every Sunday morning in Room 5. Class begins at 9:30 AM and ends at 10:15 AM. Each Sunday, we delve into God’s Word to discover all that He has to say about marriage and family dynamics. And since God the Father has been eternally involved in relationship with the Son and the Spirit, we find He has a lot to say about them! Already this year we have completed series on What God Says About Marriage, Marriage and the Means of Grace, and The Story of Ruth.

Our studies are “inductive” in nature. That means there’s heavy class participation in our sessions. Come ready to think and to give your two cents. Come ready to talk. Come ready to be transformed by the power of God’s Spirit as he illuminates our understanding and increases our knowledge. And come hungry, because we have doughnuts!

CURRENT SERIES: “MARRIAGE ON THE MOUNT”

An in-depth study into Jesus’ most famous sermon as recorded in the book of Matthew. Jesus addresses topics ranging from how it is that we derive true happiness (the Beatitudes), what it means to be righteous, anger, integrity, materialism, self-improvement, provisions for children, building on rock or sand, and many more. Do these sound like topics that can relate to marriage and family dynamics? You bet they are.

MONTHLY EVENTS

We get together for monthly off-campus events which are designed to foster healthy community-driven dynamics in our group. We have barbeques, swim events, picnics, dinners—and some of these events are NKA (No Kids Allowed!), giving our parents some much-needed grown-up time to spend with grown-up friends.

LOVE AND RESPECT SERIES

Currently running is our Love and Respect series on Sunday afternoons.  It is being offered in an off-campus small-group format. This will be a seven session commitment from participants that will meet every other Sunday. We will break for the month of December and finish in the month of January.

The Love and Respect series reveals secrets to happy marriages based on Paul’s instructions for men to love their wives and for women to respect their husbands. Why did Paul tell the women to respect their husbands instead of love? Ever thought about that? The difference in these instructions is profound. This series is based on the differences between these two sets of instructions. Men need to feel respect from wives more than they need to feel love. Women need to feel love from their husbands more than they need to feel respected? Do you believe this? It’s true. It’s in the Bible. The author, Dr. Emerson E. Eggerichs, Ph.D., expands on these differences with humor and incredible insight into how God has made men and women so drastically different from one another.

In the process, we learn how to love and respect our spouses in ways that enhance and strengthen the bonds of marriage that keep us together.  Here’s an excerpt from the book where Emerson talks about the Crazy Cycle.

“The powerful truth about Love and Respect is that the conflicts couples experience are not the root problem. Successful couples know that harmony and happiness in marriage are not primarily achieved by solving daily problems. Though these problems are real, they are not the root issue. Finding out the root issue is part of the secret! Without love, she reacts without respect, without respect he reacts without love, and so the cycle continues.”
